Massy United Insurance Remains Committed to Under 19 Cricket

At the launch of the Massy United Insurance Secondary Schools’ Under 19 Cricket Competition at a press conference on Thursday, February 5, 2015, held at the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports conference room, Massy United Insurance announced their continued support of the activity by handing over a cheque in the  amount of EC$17,000.00 to Hon. Shawn Edward, Minister of Youth Development and Sports.  The 2015 sponsorship package included prizes for the winning teams, shirts for the players, umpires and coaches, caps and a host of other sporting gear for the final tournament.   2015 marked 29 years of unbroken commitment to this tournament and at the occasion of the press conference, Miss Faye Miller, General Manager of United Insurance Agents (Saint Lucia) Ltd, Agents for Massy United Insurance Ltd, expressed the pride of the sponsors to be associated with yet another year of the event.

 “It is an honour to be a sponsor of the Under 19 cricket competition and to assist the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports as we think this tournament will help to expose the tremendous talent of St. Lucian youth to the rest of the world.” Miss Miller continued to remark that “next year will be our 30^th year of sponsoring the Under 19 tournament and we plan on making a tremendous effort to mark this milestone. We remain committed to the development of youth sports in Saint Lucia and the region”.

The Massy United Insurance Secondary Schools’ Under 19 Competition started off with ‘a bang’ in the form  of a  three overs a side Cricket-O-Rama, held at the Beausejour Cricket Grounds (BCG) on Wednesday, February 11, 2015.  Twenty-four Secondary Schools have signed up for the tournament and by the end of the tournament, fifty-five matches will be played at various community playing fields throughout the length and breadth of Saint Lucia.  Representative of the sponsor, Mr. Hollis Bristol, during his speech at BCG remarked that he was of the belief that “the corporate community had a civic duty to contribute to Saint Lucia’s development in some form or fashion.”

The Cricket-O-Rama ended with victory for the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School.  The Massy United Insurance Secondary Schools’ Under 19 Cricket Competition will come to a close during the first week of April.  See press for more details.

Massy United Insurance also sponsors a wide range of sporting activities in St Lucia.  This includes the recently held Saint Lucia Mango Bowl Regatta, an adjunct to the local youth sailing programme.
